For those new here, every week I explore the yummy world of food and share some cool things I find from the past 7 days.
Lets go!
๐ #1 International food In. Faux Meat Out.
In this article from
, I learned about a new restaurant chain called First Watch. They have a solid business model of just serving breakfast and lunch and are in-tune with American food trends and tastes. It turns out international food flavor profiles (like Mexican) are tickling Americansโ tongues.๐ #2 Croissant Run Club
I like running. I like almond croissants. Why have more people not combined these two together? Apparently thereโs a new fitness trend in Australia where run clubs just run to different pastries around town. Brilliant idea. Who wants to start one with me in LA?
๐ #3 Tomato confit
I donโt think thereโs anything more delicious than tomato confit. If you donโt know what confit is itโs a technique where you bake/simmer a food on low heat in oil for a long period of time. Make this tomato confit and top it on a slice of nice toasty sourdough with a spread of lebni or ricotta.
๐ #4 Lentil mood
Iโm trying to eat higher protein, complex carbs and grains. This recipe from Ottolenghi combines some of my favorite flavors: lentils, squash, feta, Aleppo pepper. Whoโs making this with me this week?
๐ #5 Chop Suey Sandwich?!
Thereโs a sandwich from New England called a chop suey sandwich thatโs as Chinese American as it gets: bean sprouts, chicken and sauce on a hamburger bun. Why does this not exist on the West Coast?
Thatโs it for this week. Whatโd you think? Hit reply to share your own food finds โ I'd love to include them here!
See you next Friday.
